Recipe for an easy, tasty and healthy snack!

“The most indespensible ingredient of all good home cooking: love for those you are cooking for.” – Sophia Loren

What could be more fun than making something tasty together with your four-legged friend in the kitchen?

Preparing homemade treats can be a great way to ensure that your dog or cat is getting healthy, nutritious treats. By making your own snacks, you know exactly what’s in them and can tailor the ingredients to specific health needs. Today, we’re diving into a recipe with blueberries, kefir, spirulina, and broccoli – ingredients that are not only delicious but also packed with health benefits.

Blueberries: Antioxidant Powerhouses

Blueberries are a superfood, not only for humans, but also for our dogs and cats. They’re full of antioxidants like vitamin C and vitamin E, which help to protect your buddy’s cells from free radical damage. These antioxidants also support a healthy immune system and contribute to your pet’s overall vitality.

Blueberries are rich in flavonoids (especially anthocyanidins), polyphenols (procyanidin), phenolic acids, pyruvic acid, chlorogenic acid and others, which are anti-cancer, anti-obesity, preventing degenerative diseases, anti-infection, protective properties for vision and liver, preventing heart disease, anti-diabetes, improving brain function, protecting the lung, strengthening bones, strengthening the immune system and improving cognitive function. The anthocyanins and polyphenols are important functional ingredients for preventing chronic conditions.

Kefir: Probiotic Perfection

Kefir, a fermented milk drink, is rich in probiotics, which can contribute to a healthy gut flora. Good gut health is crucial, as it contributes to a stronger immune system, better digestion, and can even improve your dog or cat’s mood. It is important to use unsweetened, natural kefir to avoid extra sugars.

Broccoli: fiber and more

Broccoli is a nutritional powerhouse rich in fiber, calcium, folate, vitamins C, E, and K, coenzyme Q10, iron, sulfate, indoles, phenolic compounds (quercetin, kaempferol, hydroxycinnamoyl), and carotenoids such as beta-carotene, cryptozanthin, lutein, and zeaxanthin. Broccoli is anticarcinogenic, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. Multiple studies have shown a relationship in which eating cruciferous vegetables reduced the incidence of cancer. We do not yet know the exact mechanism responsible for this, but sulforaphane plays a major role in this. Sulforaphane is a substance that can only be found in cruciferous vegetables.

Spirulina: superfood for super pets

Spirulina is a blue-green algae known for its impressive nutrient profile. Rich in protein, vitamins, minerals, and essential fatty acids, it provides a powerful boost to the immune system and can help improve your buddy’s overall health and vitality.

– 100 grams of blueberries

– 120 grams of kefir

– 100 grams of finely chopped, cooked broccoli

– 1/4-1/2 teaspoon spirulina (optional)

1. In a medium bowl, mix the blueberries, kefir and finely chopped broccoli.

2. Puree the mixture until smooth.

3. Add the spirulina and stir it in well

4. Pour the mixture into ice cube trays or special dog snack molds.

5. Freeze until the snacks are firm.

Give these healthy treats in moderation, as part of a balanced diet, taking into account your dog or cat’s size and daily calorie needs.

Try it out and watch your buddy enjoy these delicious and nutritious homemade treats!
